Obv. Head of Roma r., wearing Phrygian helmet surmounted by eagle's head; ROMA behind; mark of value below chin
Rev. Jupiter, crowned by Victory, in biga of elephants right, holding thunderbolt in left hand and reins in right; in exergue, [C·]METELLVS.

This coin celebrates L. Caecilius Metellus’ triumph in 250 BC, made possible by his great victory against the Carthaginians at Panormus in 251 BC, during which he captured the entire force of enemy elephants.
